Four Words
By Joseph McGowan
Last night, as I lie with you and hold you oh so tight
Four words that came upon my lips, to say them would feel so right.
I needn’t rush them, or hesitate to say, or try to hide the thought.
You couldn’t place a price on them nor could they be bought.
Be it just four words so simple to think I needn’t spend a day.
It wasn’t work, just came naturally, these four words I’m about to say.
For me, a simple man, it seems, but yet there’s always more.
Yet these four words that I would say I hadn’t said before.
I felt your touch when they were about to grace my lips
For, you were about to say the same.
It’s just the way you make me feel when I hear you speak my name.
I kiss your kips and these four words you ask of me
Why, simply, “I love you, Jamie.”
