I Am An American
By Joseph McGowan
I am an American and I wave the flag that’s red, white and blue
I am an American though I may differ from you
So don’t judge me by the color of my skin
For my skin may be black, white or brown
Yet I am an American within
I am an American yet to look at me
You might not see that in my face
For we’ve come from all over the world
I may be Caucasian, Hispanic, African or Asian
Or of other descent so don’t judge me by my race
I am an American and I stand proud
For as a nation we unite
In times of crisis to give a helping hand
We have helped our own people in troubled times
And people on foreign land
I am an American and I walk with my head held high
For an American I will always be
For I live in America where freedom reigns
“The Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free”
I am an American though I may differ from you
I still wave the flag that’s red, white and blue
