Sugar Shack
By Joseph McGowan
Come on in Michelle said with a smile.
How’s your family? Haven’t seen them in a while.
She poured my coffee as I sat down to take a load of my feet.
I smiled, “They’re good.” Michelle’s special is what I’ll have to eat.
“It’s a bit cloudy today,” she said. I interrupted, “That’s fine.”
Because the food smelled great, and I didn’t even have to wait in line.
Unlike a Saturday and Sunday, Oh the atmosphere’s rich on those busy summer weekends
You see the Sugar Shack is the place to be for good food and good friends.
As I sipped my coffee I overheard some kids talk’n about their favorite spot
You see the surf was overhead, and the girls they met that day were hot.
Having breakfast at the Sugar Shack is kinda like walking into a surfing museum
Some days the pictures of the heroes on the walls come to life
And here’s where you have a chance to see ‘em
Yeah they’ll walk in, sit down and order up a meal right next to you
Surfing legends have been coming here for thirty years. Michelle says it’s true.
Surf pioneers like Corky Carroll, “The Duke,” and Derek Ho
To the next generation of surfers, Kelly Slater, Tim Curren, and all the rest of today’s top pros
And the pictures on the walls document who comes and goes
Pictures signed by surfers doing cutbacks, tube rides, and walk’n the nose
And you know it’s not just the food that keeps us coming back
It’s the way we’re treated, like one of the family, at Michelle’s Sugar Shack.
