The Kite
By Joseph McGowan
Not enough sun and it’s cold today
But we eat our ice cream and dream of summer days
The sun plays peek-a-boo through an ashen gray sky
As a kite flies tethered for its freedom it will try
To break away from its earthly ties
To be free at last and roam the skies
Back and forth and to and fro
It fights for its life as the winds do blow
And a gleam of triumph shines in a young boy’s eyes
As Dad watches to his surprise
He’s tamed the kite as it does fly
The once wild kite sails smoothly in the sky
As a crowd gathers and watches its grace
As smile adorns Dad’s worn face
Not enough sun and it’s cold today
But not too cold for a boy and his kite at play
