What If
By Joseph McGowan
What if all that it took was to walk away from a fight
For both were smart enough to do what is right
It takes a man to walk away from a fight
Even if he thinks it’s a fight he will win
It takes a man to walk away
For he realizes that for one of them, this could be the end
So he walks away, tension lies
He walks away and no one dies
For really, is it worth dying for your piece of turf?
You mean, this side of the street is all that we’re worth?
Or this jacket and those pair of shoes
I think a life’s worth much more than that
It’s something I don’t want to lose
No, I’m not going along with the flow
For I am alive, I have dreams, and I want to grow
And I don’t want somebody saying,
“what if…” and we’ll never know
What if all that it took was to walk away from a fight
Remember, it takes a man to do what’s right
I could have, I should have, I would have
I don’t want to live my life with regret
I want to live a life I’ll never forget.
