“Firefly” Water Wall

This acrylic water wall finished in “Firefly” is located in our Gallery in Ontario, CA.  When I was a young boy I was in the country one night and thought I'd heard that fire flies actually glowed at night as they flew through the darkness, but I didn’t believe it.  As we played about the woods I saw little lights flickering in the dark. Curious, I ran towards them and there they were, fire fies buzzing around as if putting on a show for those fortunate to see it. They were just flying through the night in a dance with one another that was choreographed millions of years ago.  It was cool.

This water feature starts off as a blank palette to which I painted the whole feature solid white.  I then finished the base coat of white with an overlay of pearl.  This adds depth and texture to the basecoat.   The reason for the color choice coincides with the overlay of colors that I will apply. 

The painting techniques used on this water feature were conceived through countless hours of experimenting with different paint textures, overlay techniques and application techniques.  There is not one single brush stroke or airbrushed paint applied after the initial coats of primer and the basecoat are applied.  Everything on this water feature has been applied using techniques I have developed over my life as an artist.  Therefore no two paintings will ever be the same.  I do not like to paint in the confines of the traditional artist, rather I use my raw energy in applying the paint to the substrate, and let the paint, along with motion, dictate what you will eventually see.
