"MetalMorphosis Water Feature"

In this particular commission I wanted to compliment the architecture of the staircase with graceful, sweeping lines.

The idea of a tree came to mind, for it would allow me to go in any direction with my lines, and they would be justified, for after all, it is a tree, and therefore, would grow in any manner seen fit for its survival. I then wanted it to be made out of many different substrates, for it was part of a new world that combined nature, man and technology into hybrid forms of themselves.

Forever evolving into something else... I used steel, glass, clay, foam, wire, fiber optics, resins, water and paint. I wanted to expose the raw metal where it had been fused together, showing the immense amount of heat that turned the metal into liquid, and now had hardened into tiny steel spheres that bonded together. I intertwined the wire and fiber optics with the branches of the tree exposing it where the tree’s bark had yet to cover the metal core of the tree. 

This tree has four main branches, each reflecting one of the seasons of the year, thus each would be different than the other.  As a work in progress I can still explore many different ideas that could enhance this commission, so please check back to see its progress.
